Builders Exchange - Cornerstone Award

The Builders Exchange Cornerstone Award was created in 1954 to honor an individual who exemplifies outstanding service and commitment to the local construction industry and community. Since that time, 57 professionals have been recognized with the industry’s highest leadership honor.

Rick Lombardi (center) received the news that he had been named the 2011 recipient of the BX Cornerstone Award from representatives of the board and selection committee including (from left) Dennis Hoffer (Inside Outfitters, Inc.), nominator Kyle Rooney (Turner Construction Co.), Dennis Shuman (Speer Mechanical) and Cathy Blackford (BX Executive Director). Lombardi was selected for his leadership in the community, the industry and the Exchange.

Nominees are rated on several criteria including:

their level of BX participation,
their community involvement,
their impact on the local commercial construction industry,
years of service to the industry, and
professionalism and ethics.

The 57th recipient of the Builders Exchange Cornerstone Award is Rick Lombardi. Lombardi was selected to receive the Cornerstone Award by the BX board of directors, based on an initial review by the BX Cornerstone Award Review Committee. The Cornerstone Award will officially be presented to Lombardi on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011 at the Aladdin Shrine Center during the 119^th BX Annual Meeting.

Rick Lombardi

Rick Lombardi, retired Vice President and General Manager of Turner Construction Co., was selected for his leadership contributions to the community, the industry and the Exchange. Considered to be the highest honor presented in the central Ohio construction industry, the Cornerstone Award has been given annually since 1954.

A BX member since 1982, Lombardi served on the board of directors from 2003 to 2010. His involvement at the Exchange includes serving as a Membership Ambassador, Scholarship Trustee and Craftsmanship Judge, as well as board liaison to the safety and education committees. Lombardi has also been a member of the Cornerstone Review Committee and served as chairman in 2004. He was a Champion for the Rising Leaders Institute and served on the BX Networking Task Force.

In addition to his BX involvement, Lombardi is a past president of AGC of Central Ohio. He has also been active with the Community Foundation of Delaware County where he was chair of the board in 2005 and again in 2010. Lombardi also served on the Easter Seals Board of Directors from 2002 to 2009 and chaired the organization’s Facility Task Force.
