The Craftsman:  Troy Shurtz of Creative Cabinets, Ltd.

His Winning Work:  Architectural Wood Panels at the Jones Day Office Building

The quality work of Troy Shurtz is unmistakable when viewing the wood panels on the first floor and in the elevators of the Jones Day Office Building in the Arena District.

Shurtz and his crew of four cut and finished the panels off-site, then field modified and installed the panels on-site. The oversized panels that stretch from floor to ceiling consist of an exhausted source of Pomele Sabelle veneer. All panels are book matched and end matched with a clear finish that preserves the wood’s natural color.

The wood panels are the architectural highlight of the main lobby of this building as well as the centerpiece for the Arena District. Shurtz took the lead in laying out the wood panels months prior to delivery so the other trades could use these baselines to layout all the work that had to precede the installation of the wood panels. This precision by Shurtz ensured a flawless installation of all the finishes in the lobby area.

Shurtz is president and co-owner of Creative Cabinets, a company he started nine years ago, and has been in the industry for 20 years.
