The Craftsman: Scott Pace of Sachs Masonry, LLC

His Winning Work:  Natural stone masonry and rubble stone veneer at North Bank Park

His Challenge: The exceptional skills and expertise of Scott Pace are clearly identifiable when viewing North Bank Park located near the Arena District and downtown Columbus.

The project included more than 4,276 linear feet of walls consisting of 17,000 square feet of hand-shaped stone and 535 tons of ruble stone. Pace used retooled old stone from the Ohio State Penitentiary and new stone hand-dressed to match the old. Each stone was hand fabricated, hand set and tooled on-site for a superior consistency throughout the project.

Many of the concrete infrastructure walls were not dimensionally constructed as planned. On a daily basis, Pace was integral in implementing the necessary vertical, horizontal and elevation adjustments to ensure the high quality of the finished project.

Pace and his crew of 14, worked for 13 months and completed the job under difficult winter conditions.

Pace has been employed with Sach’s Masonry for seven years. He has been in the industry for 29 years.

Craftsman’s Comments:  “I have 29 years in this business. I am more stunned and amazed than anything about receiving this award.”
