2007 BX Craftsmanship Award Recipient

The Craftsman:
Zane Murray of Acoustic Ceiling & Partition Co. of Ohio, Inc.

His Winning Work:
Rough framing of the archways, columns and soffits at Corazon Club & Spa

Zane Murray’s precision and eye for detail led a crew of 64 to complete the rough framing at Corazon Club & Spa.  Murray’s brother Zack started on the project as a hands-on foreman. As his assistant, Zane took over halfway through the project when Zack suffered from an unfortunate off-the-job injury.

The work involved many angles when framing the archways, columns and soffits. A particular challenge was the spiral staircase surrounding the elevator. To maintain a smooth transition and follow the sweep of the stairs, each stud was a different length and installed at a different angle.

A hallway containing seven identical archways is one of many more examples of Murray’s talent. Using his carpentry skills in another capacity, Murray carved a mantel from 200-year-old lumber which is showcased in the bar area fireplace.

Murray is a member of Ohio & Vicinity Regional Council of Carpenters Local 437. He has been in the industry for 21 years, spending the last three with Acoustic Ceiling & Partition Co. of Ohio, Inc.

Architect:  Schoch Associates, Inc.
Engineer:  Prater Engineering Associates
General Contractor:  Continental Building Systems

Murray is a first-time Craftsmanship Award winner. He started in the trade by helping his father, whose hobby was carpentry, on various projects. Murray’s brother-in-law also works in the industry.
