2008 BX Craftsmanship
Award Recipient

The Craftsman:  Bill Allmon of Mid-City Electric Co.
His Winning Work:  Installation of the Electrical Systems at Dublin Methodist Hospital

Since 1964, the BX Craftsmanship Awards Program has recognized the importance of craftspeople for the quality work they provide to the construction industry.

Craftsman Bill Allmon is responsible for the electrical work at Dublin Methodist Hospital.  Allmon led a crew of 49 to complete work throughout the new facility.

The job was all encompassing, including: the installation of two 2-megawatt generators; electrical service for the boilers, chillers and cooling towers; operating rooms, radiology and patient rooms; as well as state-of-the-art security, communication and lighting systems.

Every patient room is universally equipped and has the systems in place to be converted to any level of care, eliminating the need to move patients.

The tight 18-month timeline and sheer size of the 325,000 square-foot hospital was a challenge that kept Allmon in constant communication and coordination with the other trades to ensure the installation was correct and on-time.

A member of Electrical Workers Local Union 683, Allmon has been employed by Mid-City Electric Co. for more than 17 of his 18 years as an electrician.

Allmon began his career in construction as a carpenter, framing and roofing houses. An uncle who was also in the trade helped him make the move to electrical work. Allmon is a first-time Craftsmanship Award winner.
