The
Craftsman: Jim Bigler of Legacy Commercial Flooring |
|
The skilled craftsmanship of Jim Bigler is evident the moment you step through the revolving doors at the Safe Auto corporate offices.
Leading a crew of three, Bigler installed the elaborate ceramic porcelain flooring in the massive two-story main lobby rotunda and the elevator lobbies.
The main lobby showcases an intricate circular design that incorporates a medallion of the company logo as the center feature. Near the elevators, the tiles are all placed on 45-degree angles.
Both
areas demanded tight grout joints and precise angle tolerances. Each piece of
stone was custom cut and fabricated on site in a variety of shapes and sizes.
Measurements had to be meticulous to guarantee a perfect fit.
The angles in the flooring are continued throughout other aspects of the building, so Bigler worked closely with the other trades to ensure that each section flowed together.
A
member of Bricklayers Local 55, Bigler has been employed by Legacy Commercial
Flooring for 36 of his 37 years in the trade.
A first-time Craftsmanship Award recipient, Bigler has two brothers who are also involved in the flooring trade. All three work for Legacy Commercial Flooring.
