2009 BX Craftsmanship
Award Recipient

The Craftsman:  David Shenberger of Pymer Plastering, Inc.
His Winning Work:  Plaster renovation and repairs to ornamental plaster and walls at the Thompson Library on The Ohio State University campus

The elaborate plaster renovation and repair in the Grand Reference Room of the Thompson Library on The Ohio State University campus is the work of David Shenberger.

Since 1965, the room has featured two-stories of working space. The renovation project brought back the original 1912 design of a grand hall.

The age of the library and the structural changes the room has endured resulted in extensive work for Shenberger and his crew of six who were meticulous about re-creating the historical look of the room.

The ornamentation was fabricated by replicating existing capitals, moldings and column bases using templates and molds crafted by hand.

Temperature was an added challenge for Shenberger as he worked through the winter months.

Shenberger has been in the construction industry for 31 years. He has been with Pymer Plastering since 2004.  He also worked for them in the 1980’s and 90’s.

A first-time Craftsmanship Award recipient, Shenberger began his career working for his father at J&B Plastering. His work is also showcased at the Ohio Theater, the main branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library and the Wexner Center for the Arts.
