2009 BX Craftsmanship
Award Recipient

The Craftsman:  Sean Shisler of Mid-City Electric Co.
His Winning Work:  Replacement of existing transformers and switchgear at Mount Carmel West Hospital

Craftsman Sean Shisler used his extensive knowledge of the electrical trade to execute major upgrades to the infrastructure at Mount Carmel West Hospital .

The project required the replacement of two existing transformers, the associated switchgear and a primary switch; plus select automatic transfer switches and emergency distribution panels.

Shisler led a crew of 13 to install more than 6,000 feet of new conduit through very tight spaces and around existing equipment. The lack of space and limited access to the third floor mechanical room meant that even factory built equipment had to be disassembled, moved into place, and then reassembled.

A critical task was keeping the hospital operational while minimizing exposure and risk. Shisler spent weeks reviewing panel schedules in order to carefully plan for the necessary down time. Ultimately, only five shutdowns were required and were executed flawlessly.

A member of Electrical Workers Local 683, Shisler has been an electrician for 18 years.  He has been employed by Mid-City Electric for his entire career.

Shisler is a first-time Craftsmanship Award winner. He has also worked on the Groveport Municipal Building, the Discover Card buildings and the Nationwide Data Center.
