2010 BX Craftsmanship
Award Recipient

The Craftsman:  Donavan Minnear of Pierce Construction, Inc.
His Winning Work:  Installation of millwork in the Archie M. Griffin Grand Ballroom and the Center for Student Leadership and Service at The Ohio Union

The skilled craftsmanship of Donavan Minnear is on display in the Grand Ballroom and the Center for Student Leadership and Service at The Ohio Union.

Minnear and his crew of 17 were responsible for the installation of three block “O” light fixtures that give the ballroom its unquestionable Buckeye atmosphere.

Each of the fixtures are approximately 35 by 20 feet and are comprised of more than 50 panels, with each panel weighing up to 70 pounds.

The 25-foot ceilings forced Minnear to lay out the three layers of panels on the floor - in reverse order - and then move them into place one at a time, using a lift.

In the Center for Student Leadership and Service, Minnear flawlessly executed the field assembly of the fireplace mantel and column décor. The wood panels and trim were provided by Mock Woodworking Co.

A member of Carpenters Local Union 200, Minnear has been employed by Pierce Construction, Inc. for 16 of his 22 years in the industry.

A first-time Craftsmanship Award winner, Minnear has also installed millwork at the Lincoln Theater, OSU’s Thompson Library and the Safe Auto corporate offices.

This year, the Builders Exchange will honor 12 Craftsmanship Award recipients at the BX Annual Meeting on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, at the Aladdin Shrine Center, 3850 Stelzer Rd.
