2011 Craftsmanship Award recipients announced

The BX Craftsmanship Award judges met recently and selected 12 individuals to be honored with a 2011 BX Craftsmanship Award.

Since 1964, the BX Craftsmanship Awards Program has recognized the importance of craftspeople for the quality work they provide to the local construction industry.

The Craftsmanship recipients were selected from 41 nominations of work completed throughout the central Ohio area during the past year.

The 2011 BX Craftsmanship Award recipients are:

• Clarence "Buddy" Brown (The Superior Group) for the installation of the electrical feeder system for the main electrical room in the penthouse area at Battelle Memorial Institute; nominated by Brett Meyer (Gilbane Building Company)

• Danny Chard (Wanner Metal Worx, Inc.) for the steel columns and roof framing of the west gazebo at Harrison Park; nominated by Craig Wanner (Wanner Metal Worx, Inc.)

• Sam Ciminero (Smoot Construction) for the installation of CMU, brick, glazed block and slate brick associated with the café/restroom building and band shell at Scioto Mile Promenade and Park; nominated by Jim Ruffing (Smoot Construction)

• Nick Clark (OCP Contractors) for the metal framing and drywall in the narthex, tabernacle and sanctuary at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church; nominated by Darrell Brown (OCP Contractors)  

• Jud Cline (K.E. Dittmar Company, Inc.)  for the stone facing and installation on the building exterior and interior fireplace at the Orange Branch of the Delaware County Library; nominated by Mick Harper (K.E. Dittmar Company, Inc.) and Randy Pettit (Elford, Inc.)  

• Steve Engle (Mid-City Electric Co.) for the installation of electrical service and systems at the TJX Data Center; nominated by Brian Dew (Mid-City Electric Co.)  

• Rick Franz (Sauer Group, Inc.) for the installation of HVAC piping and equipment in the new 13-story patient tower at Nationwide Children's Hospital; nominated by Ron Swart (Sauer Group, Inc.)  

• Dean Meier (The Superior Group) for the electrical distribution in the facility power house and west mechanical room at JP Morgan Chase; nominated by Rich Hartman (The Superior Group)  

• Doug Shawver (George J. Igel & Co., Inc.) for the cast-in-place concrete stairs added to the north and south sides of Cunz Hall at The Ohio State University; nominated by James Brassel, Jr. (George J. Igel & Co., Inc.)  

• Kevin Smuck (Hilliard Glass & Service)  for the interior glass package at the Franklin County Government Center Pavilion; nominated by Darren Taylor (Hilliard Glass & Service)  

• John Stamper (Martin Painting & Coating Co.) for the decorative painting, stenciling, gold leafing and staining at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church; nominated by John Pritt (Martin Painting & Coating Co.)  

• Josh Wright (Bruner Corp.) for the installation of mechanical piping systems in the boiler room, chiller room and mechanical penthouses at Battelle Memorial Institute; nominated by Brett Meyer (Gilbane Building Company).
